Notice of Nominations Received, Day of Election and Hui-A-Moriori

Notice is given by the Trustees of the Hokotehi Moriori Trust (HMT) that the following
persons have been nominated as candidates for the office of trustee to the Hokotehi
Moriori Trust. All candidate nominations have been accepted by the Trustees pursuant to
clauses 5.22 to 5.29 of the Hokotehi Moriori Trust Deed of Trust.

Rēkohu (2 vacancies):

As there are more candidates than there are vacancies to be filled, an election will be held between the above listed candidates, pursuant to clause 13.9 of the HMT Deed, which allows members of HMT to vote by postal ballot or attendance at the Hui-a-Moriori.


NOTICE OF RESOLUTION
Included with the voting papers, all eligible adult members will also be able to vote by resolution on proposed changes to the Hokotehi Moriori Trust Deed. Proposed changes are outlined in an information booklet which will be included in the voting pack posted to all eligible adult members. Click here to view document.


ISSUE OF VOTING PAPERS
Voting papers will be posted to all eligible adult members of the Hokotehi Moriori Trust from Tuesday 27 September 2022.


RETURN OF VOTING PAPERS
Voting papers must be returned not later than 5pm Friday 28 October 2022 to the Returning Officer, Hokotehi Moriori Trust. Voting papers can be returned by post in the ReplyPaid envelope supplied or hand delivered to the Returning Officer (being voting in person) at the Hui-a-Moriori to be held at The Novotel Christchurch, 52 Cathedral Square, Christchurch, at 10am on Saturday 29 October 2022.


NOTICE OF HUI-A-MORIORI
A Hui-a-Moriori of the Hokotehi Moriori Trust is to be held at The Novotel Christchurch, 52 Cathedral Square, Christchurch on Saturday 29 October 2022 at 10am. Matters to be discussed are as follows:

  1. Welcome
  2. Apologies
  3. Presentation on Proposed Changes to the Hokotehi Moriori Trust Deed
  4. Presentation of audited financial statements for HMT for the 12-month period ending 30 June 2022
  5. Completion of voting in person for trustees for HMT for Rēkohu, North Island and the South Island and the announcement by the independent Returning Officer of the results (based on postal voting and voting in person)
  6. Any General Business (notice of any matters to be raised under General Business is to be given to the
    Trustees at least 7 days prior to the Hui-a-Moriori).

THE PURPOSES OF THE AGM WILL BE TO:

1. To announce the appointment of 4 trustee positions for member ratification;

2. Present audited financial statements of the Trust;

3. Receive the Annual and Strategic Plans of the Trust;

4. Members to vote on proposed resolutions for Trust Deed Changes

5. Discuss and vote on any resolutions received in accordance with clause 15.3 of the Trust Deed. Any proposed resolutions must be received in writing by the Trust Secretary at the Trust

Office, P.O. Box 188, Chatham Islands 8942, no later than 5pm on Friday 15 September 2022.

In the event that the current surge in Omicron cases prohibits us from meeting face to face, we will provide members with information to connect via a ZOOM link.

Post electoral system by postal vote, for four (4) Trustees of the Hokotehi Moriori Trust:
• two (2) Trustees from Rēkohu (Chatham Islands); and
• one (1) Trustee from the South Island; and
• one (1) Trustee from the North Island.

NOMINATIONS
Each nomination must be endorsed by 20 adult registered members of Hokotehi
Moriori Trust, and must also include a statutory declaration and brief CV from
the nominee. To be eligible for nomination, a candidate must be ordinarily resident in
the nomination region for which they are seeking election.

normal business hours by contacting the Independent Returning Officer on
info@electionservices.co.nz or 0800 922 822 or the Hokotehi Moriori Trust website,

If there are more nominees than vacancies, an election will be held, and voting will open
on Tuesday 27 September, and close at 5pm, Friday 28 October 2022.
The results of the election will be announced at the Hui-a -Moriori scheduled to be held
on Saturday 29 October 2022.

Repratriation Ceremony

Members are invited to a ceremony to mark the return of 300 kōimi tchakat from the Natural History Museum, London and New Zealand domestic museums.

This is a monumental occasion for Moriori, and your presence would be deeply welcomed.

WHEN: Friday 8 July

WHERE: Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongawera, Wellington

RUN OF EVENTS: 7.15am Arrival
All hūnau to gather at Te Papa staff entrance via the carpark. From there, those hūnau able to carry crates will go to the wāhi tchap.Other hūnau will be guided to the marae, Rongamaraeroa.
8.00am Pōwhiri and hokomaurāhiri11.45am Hokomaurāhiri concludes with a meal
1.30pm Blessing of the refreshed Moriori Exhibition.

All members have received an invitation by email this evening. Members who receive via post will receive invitations in the coming days. Please RVSP to office@kopinga.co.nz by Friday 24 June, including your full name, contact email and mobile number.

We would like to welcome as many hūnau as possible to join us. Depending on the numbers, Hokotehi Moriori Trust may partially cover travel costs. However, accommodation costs are at the member’s own expense. Rangata Matua costs are covered in full.

•  one (1) Trustee from the North Island.

HMT COVID19 Hardship Assistance Grant

HARDSHIP GRANTS AND ASSISTANCE DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN AND ISOLATION

 

Hokotehi is aware that in these weeks of isolation and times of uncertainty some aspects of everyday life may have become difficult for some members. With the assistance of Te Pūni Kōkiri and Te Arawhiti, HMT has a limited pool of funds to assist our Hokotehi members who may need a bit of extra help with a one-off hardship grant.

Please note that these grants are not replacements for the extensive government assistance already available for employees and employers, renters and tenants, mortgage payments and for cash flow/tax payments assistance. There are 2 categories of Hardship grant that members can apply for:-

A – Household Grant                                                                                            Guide: $200 per application

  1. Fuel, electricity and heating bills/supply of diesel and/or firewood
  2. Food and medicines
  3. Freight expenses of essential needs
  4. Assistance with extra costs for phone and other means of connectivity

Members who apply for this grant category should detail what difficulties they are experiencing and how the grant monies will be utilised. Only 1 application per household.

 

B – Business Grant                                                                                               Guide: $400 per application

  1. Assistance for our fishing community with boat/engine repairs and certification
  2. ‘Starting back up’ assistance for self-employed members to get your business back in operation after lockdown

Available to HMT members who own a New Zealand registered business and who have experienced a minimum of 30% decline in income as a direct result of COVID19, from Jan 2020 to time of application. Details on how the grant monies will be utilised are needed with your application.

 

How much can you apply for?

The Hardship grants are intended as one-off payments to ease our members through this time.

For assistance with items listed under the Household Grant A category you can apply for a grant up to $200.

For Business Grant B we are offering a grant of $400 for members to assist with re-commencing fishing, farming and business activities.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a current registered member of HMT over the age of 18
  • Only 1 application will be considered per household
  • Proof of ID and bank account number should accompany your grant application
  • You may only apply for 1 grant category – you may not apply for both
  • Only available to members residing in New Zealand/Chatham Islands – not applicable to members living overseas
  • Members must declare that they are experiencing extenuating hardship as a direct result of COVID19
